About Matthew

Science isn’t just about exams - it’s a lens to understand our rapidly evolving world. My passion lies in equipping students with both the technical skills to excel and the curiosity to see how their learning applies beyond the classroom. Whether it’s the ethics of genetics or the real-world impact of ecosystems, I help them connect dots to tomorrow’s challenges. My academic journey blended lab work with adventure: from fieldwork during my MSc to rehabilitating howler monkeys with a wildlife charity in Belize. These experiences taught me how to make complex ideas tangible - something I now bring to every tutoring session. By combining deeper conceptual understanding with exam-focused precision, my students don’t just improve their grades; many consistently achieve beyond their predicted results. When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me hiking with my dog, volunteering for conservation projects, or cheering on my rugby team. Science, like sports, rewards discipline, creativity, and resilience - qualities I strive to nurture in every learner.

About the lesson

As a science teacher at a top-performing school, I take a caring and methodical approach to tutoring, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. I tailor each session to the student’s needs, focusing on confidence-building, exam technique, and long-term retention through regular review, retrieval practice, and interleaving activities. With a BSc in Biology, an MSc in Zoology, and years of teaching and tutoring experience, I specialise in GCSE and A-level support. My one-hour sessions are structured yet adaptable, ensuring steady progress and academic success.
