About Matthew
I am a UK citizen, native English speaker and a state qualified teacher with over 30 years' experience. I have worked extensively with early years, KS1 and KS2 as a class teacher. I have taught older children and teens (usually in an ESL setting) and have been a private English tutor. I am particularly sensitive to learners who need support in building their confidence - for whatever reason.

Lessons can be tailored to the needs of the learner. Considerations would include: Is the learner a native speaker or an English as a Secondary Language learner? The age of the learner. The aims of the learner (parents!) - general improvement or for a specific goal (such as passing an exam). Generally, a holistic approach suits most learners but with an emphasis on age/ability appropriate texts. Building confidence is an essential part of any good teaching. I am a qualified UK teacher (QTS) with over 30 years' experience working in the UK (primary school class teacher) and abroad (class teacher, ESL teacher, private tutor). I have worked with all age groups of children and teens and occasionally adults. I have a BA in English literature and a PGCE. Lesson time would be set by mutual discussion according to the needs of the learner.
