Kate's CV

I am currently Head of English at a school in OXfordshire. My role includes the oversight of KS3, 4 and 5 English. As part of my role I have re-developed the KS3 curriculum to ensure that the students are exposed to the skills needed for the new GCSE specification. We run the KS3 AQA assessments, and the data from last summer shows that students who have followed the new curriculum have achieved better than their counterparts in the previous year.
I have also been co-creator of a literacy intervention known as “Word Zing. Word Zing is a series of literacy games designed to help students access the language needed to learn in all subjects. Our pilot group showed a huge increase in their ability to recognise and identify words after a short 7 week intervention. This strategy has received the interest of both the NLT and NATE, I have delivered training sessions at the United Learning Trust Academy Conference in August 2016, as well as delivering our findings to the NLT in June 2016. This year we hope to present at the annual NATE conference.
I am currently studying for my MSc (Learning and Teaching) at Oxford University Department of Education.
