About Mike
My name is Mike. I’m a PhD student at the University of Bristol and I am hoping to do some A level maths/physics tutoring.
I am currently a member of the 'Quantum Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training' at the University of Bristol, studying quantum physics and quantum computing. I received an integrated masters (MPhys) Physics degree from the University of Sheffield, graduating with a first class. My A levels were in Maths (A), Physics (B), Biology (A) and Computer Science (A).
I want to tutor because I never had the opportunity for private tuition when doing my A levels, and I would like to provide young adults with the knowledge and one-on-one teaching that I couldn't afford. Additionally, I believe that covering the fundamentals that I learned in A Level will help me during my PhD.

Whilst completing my A levels I did a lot of research into the marking schemes used by the examiners. I worked backwards from the mark schemes of past papers, making sure I secured every mark possible.
At the end of the day, your exam performance is all that matters from A Level. It makes more sense to perfect the end product (by doing every possible past paper and learning the mark schemes) than constantly writing and rewriting notes from your classes/textbooks. There's also often an added benefit that questions get repeated every few years, maybe with some numbers changed in the equations. So by doing all the past papers you possibly can, you have a chance of answering a question in the exam that you've seen before.
I am based in Bristol, and would be willing to do tutoring in person or over a platform like Zoom. I have a tablet that I can use over Zoom which makes writing out maths equations and drawing diagrams/graphs easy.
Each lesson will be one hour long, and I intend to do an hours work outside of this for preparation and marking. I am willing to do up to 4 hours per week with a student.
