About Yasna
Bonjour-hi! My name is Yasna, and I am a recent graduate of McGill University in Montréal, QC, having recently obtained a B.A. in international development studies. With a CGPA of 3.63 at McGill, I graduated with First-Class Honours and completed a minor in Arabic language. I also completed Persian classes at Columbia University as a visiting undergraduate student with a CGPA of 4.0. My professional experience includes several years spent working as a journalist, as I am passionate about communications, news reporting, and learning from and fostering long-lasting connections with local communities.
I love learning languages, as well as teaching languages to myself and others – I speak conversational French, Persian, and Arabic, and I am currently teaching myself Japanese. I find that although language learning often seems daunting, with the right teacher and the right methods, it becomes what it should always be – accessible, enriching, and fun!

Hi there! My names is Yasna; I'm 21 years old and a recent graduate of McGill University in Montreal. I know firsthand how difficult learning French can be, and as someone who's lived in a francophone city for four years now, I firmly believe that the best way to learn a language (and French in particular) is to do your best to immerse yourself in it, by speaking and listening to the language through conversation and media.
One of my key approaches is creating an environment where students are unafraid to make mistakes. So often in my own studies did I lose out on learning opportunities because I was scared of making a grammatical mistake, but mistakes are an inevitable and crucial part of language learning! I aim to ensure that my students do not feel judged or discouraged by mistakes, but rather motivated to learn from them and eager to try.
I am also a big supporter of the spaced repetition technique when it comes to vocabulary learning and retention, finding it extremely useful for my own self-taught language practice sessions.
My lessons through superprof are aimed at beginning to lower-intermediate speakers of French (i.e., no prior knowledge is required), and a typical lesson plan would be made up of five parts:
To begin with, we would have a short friendly chat, which would aim to utilize recently learned grammatical structures and vocabulary. Then, as we would focus each lesson (or set of lessons) on a specific theme (e.g., food and dining out, etc.), we would spend a good portion of time on learning theme-related vocabulary (verbs, nouns, and adjectives). From there, we would transition into learning some useful grammatical structures for employing these newly-acquired vocabulary terms and ensuring that the student has a solid foundation in verb usage and identifying patterns in the language. To wrap up, we would have a structured conversation using these vocabulary terms and grammatical structures, which would imitate useful, real-life situations. Lastly, we would review that day's material with spaced repetition techniques.
Of course, we could always discuss altering the exact lesson plan to better suit a student's needs. This sample lesson plan is aimed at ensuring a solid foundation in oral and listening comprehension for useful everyday situations, and might be especially beneficial to students who wish to learn French so that they may be better prepared to visit, live, or study in francophone environments (though writing and reading comprehension would still be an inevitable and crucial part of the learning process); however, we could always refocus the broader lesson plan to best fit the student's goals.
Thank you for reading through and considering my French language tutoring sessions! I am here to help you succeed.
