About Meg
I am a freelance flautist offering teaching in South Birmingham.
I have been teaching beginners since I was in school, and have taught in Birmingham as well as in London where I grew up.
I have recently completed a Masters of Music at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and having taken a break from teaching to concentrate on my studies, I am ready to take on some new students.
I can do lessons over Zoom, Skype and FaceTime. If you feel comfortable enough, and have a well ventilated room in which social distancing is possible, I can also travel to you to teach.
I am DBS checked.

I have taught small group lessons (two or three students) at beginner level, but more advanced students should have one to one lessons. I teach according to what each student wishes to achieve, as I have a background in many musical styles and can cater my teaching to the student's interests. If the student is a beginner, I will begin by progressing towards ABRSM or Trinity Grade 1 standard.
I find group teaching to be very helpful, having started a scales and technique group with the flute department at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire last year. I would recommend group teaching to young beginners as I find it helps with focus and moral support, and also develops important skills such as listening to each other. Of course, if this is not possible, I am very open to teaching young beginners one to one.
My teaching style also involves as much ensemble playing as possible. In group lessons, I will encourage students to play duets and trios together, and duets with me in one-to-ones, to help create and develop important musicianship skills that will be useful throughout their lives.

I would recommend that beginners, particularly young ones, begin with half an hour lessons (unless it is group teaching).
For half an hour lessons, I will charge £20.
For group lessons, I will ask for £45 per hour, but the cost will be split between the students.
