About Nicolas
I am a recent college graduate from UC Santa Barbara with over ten years of playing experience. I have a primary background in jazz, having played in middle school, high school, and college jazz bands. During my time at UCSB, I also became a professional gigging musician, playing in jazz, soul, funk, and rock groups around the Santa Barbara area.
I am fluent in Spanish, coming from a Venezuelan and Mexican household. I am a big fan of basketball and football (both kinds!). I love to travel, cook, and make ceramics as well. I am very excited to meet you!

As a recent college graduate, I emphasize that the student's experience takes precedence over everything else. Much like how I was taught to play, you need to WANT to play what you're learning, with a helping hand (me!). As a musician with a jazz background, I do not just focus on learning a song - rather, my approach tackles the relationships between musicians, the influence of the bass on a song, and, of course, how to play fluidly and conversationally.
Typically, my teaching style is based on a rough two-month timeline that allows me and a student to create goal-based routines, all without feeling the pressure or guilt of school. I enjoy teaching for all ages, but I focus primarily on beginners.
