About Charlotte

I served for decades as a judge before retiring into private teaching, and across eighteen years combining that career with private ESL instruction I have guided approximately five hundred forty adult students. My legal background gives me an unusually precise, structured understanding of how language functions in serious, consequential settings, insight built from decades of professional argumentation and formal communication. I work particularly well with professionals and ambitious adult learners who need English that holds up in serious, formal, or high-stakes workplace situations. My teaching style is exacting and intellectually rigorous, reflecting decades of professional legal standards, though I remain genuinely patient with students working hard to reach that level of precision. I have guided numerous professionals toward genuinely confident, precise communication, drawing on real legal experience rather than purely academic language training alone. Students consistently tell me my corrections feel demanding but genuinely useful, appreciating precision over vague encouragement that leaves real gaps unaddressed in their communication. I take particular pride in helping students construct a genuinely clear, confident argument or navigate a serious formal workplace conversation in English. After eighteen years, I remain genuinely committed to this precise teaching approach.

Decades on the bench taught me that precise language and clear, logical structure genuinely determine whether an argument lands or falls apart, and that principle shapes every ESL lesson I teach. We work extensively on constructing clear, logical arguments in English, since building and defending a position requires exactly the structured thinking and precise vocabulary many adult learners never properly develop. Grammar is taught with genuine rigor, particularly formal register and precise conditional structures, since these are exactly where courtroom experience taught me clarity matters enormously. Vocabulary training centres on formal, professional, and argumentative language, genuinely useful words for serious discussion, workplace negotiation, and confident formal communication. I run mock meetings and structured discussions regularly, giving students genuine practice constructing and defending a position clearly under mild real pressure. Listening practice includes formal speeches and structured argumentation, exposing students to natural, precise English in genuinely serious, consequential contexts. I correct precisely and directly, explaining exactly why one phrasing carries more weight or clarity than another, the same reasoning I applied constantly on the bench. Written communication receives real attention too, since clear, well-structured writing carries genuine weight in professional and formal contexts. Every lesson stays intellectually rigorous and genuinely precise throughout.
