About Robert
- What kind of experience do you have?
I began my professional playing career when i joined the Major Staff Band of the the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1981, we regularly appeared on the BBC as well as other television channels and Performed for Heads of state and Royalty around the world. Having left the Army I joined the British Police Symphony Orchestra (BPSO) in 1992 of which I am currently Principal Trumpet, I have also played professionally with the Constellation Big Band in Swansea and The Liberty Big Band in Cardiff, and on occasion with The Phil Dando Band throughout Wales. I have experience in playing in all sections of the Brass Band world which includes winnng the Band of Wales Trophy with Burry Port Champion Brass Band in 2000.
Recently since relocating to Surrey I have performed with Morley Chamber Orchestra, Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra and Ember Big Band.
I taught brass with West Glamorgan Music Services for 12 years, nine of which included conducting the Youth Orchestra on a weekly basis . My teaching experience also includes working with children with special needs.
I am currently employed by Surrey Arts as a Peripatetic Brass Teacher, teaching Individuals, Ensembles & Whole Class Teaching. I have recently also had the priviledge to work with Students involved with The One Handed Musical Instrument Trust (OHMI).

My love of the trumpet started at the age of nine & has been part of me ever since. It's a passion. As I tell my students it's not all about exam success but is also just the pure enjoyment of making music as a soloist or as part of an ensemble.

- Tell me about your qualifications.
Studied at The Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, Whitton. Studied to diploma level whilst serving as a Military Musician in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
City and Guilds London Institute, Musical Instrument Technology Advanced, Specializing in Woodwind, Brass and Non-Fretted Strings. Merton College.
OCR, RSA Computer Literacy and Information Technology, Cambridge and RSA Examinations.
- How much do you charge?
£35 per hour or £28 for 45 minutes. Extra fee to be added if travel is incurred amount subject to distance.
- Where do you teach?
Primarily at home in West Molesey. Happy to travel to students homes to Walton-Upon-Thames, East Molesey, Hinchley Woods, Kingston-Upon-Thames, Esher, Thames Ditton, Hersham, Claygate & surrounding area, Richmond upon Thames.
- When are you available?
Primarily Monday to Wednesday 9 am - 6pm.
However this can be negotiated so feel free to call for a chat.

All ages and abilities which includes any child or adult that has special needs.

- Do you have a personal message for students?
You are never too old to start to learn to play a musical instrument. It can be fun and extremely rewarding and is more than just learning to make a sound. It enriches one's life in so many ways, from meeting new people, making new friends and just enjoying the many different genres of music. This is the first message I tell my students.
