About Haolei
I am a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music with a Bachelors in Piano Performance and hold the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM), a professional diploma specialising in piano pedagogy. My musical approach is refined under the tutelage of Christopher Elton (Emeritus Head of Piano at RAM), whose world-renowned focus on musicality and technical ease defines my teaching standard.
Beyond music, I work as a Fintech professional. This dual background is a defining part of my identity as a teacher: it allows me to offer a level of organisation and goal-oriented structure that is unique in music tuition. I am particularly adept at helping students with demanding schedules find the most efficient path to progress without sacrificing artistic depth.
My goal is to bridge the gap between elite conservatoire-level artistry and the practical, disciplined approach required for modern success. My teaching prioritises musical phrasing and artistry above all else. I focus first on the narrative and phrasing of the music, developing the student’s ear and sensitivity. Technical precision is taught as the essential tool to unlock this musical expression, ensuring a beautiful tone and physical ease without tension.
I offer home-visit lessons in Central London within reasonable commute time of Canary Wharf, typically lasting 60 minutes. This allows for a comprehensive session including repertoire, phrasing, and integrated theory. I also offer 45-minute sessions for younger beginners and 90-minute intensives for advanced students or those approaching exam deadlines.
Lessons are available for absolute beginners (ages 6+), Grade 1–8 exam candidates, and beyond. Whether you are starting from scratch or polishing advanced repertoire, I provide a high-performance environment tailored to your individual goals. I specialise in helping students move from "playing notes" to achieving Distinction-level musicality.
