About Tamir
Tamir is a warm and sensitive teacher who focuses on his students’ interests, diving straight into the music his students are passionate about. Tamir is an experienced bassist in a wide variety of genres, including pop, rock, funk, classical, and especially in jazz and musical theatre. To get the most of Tamir’s teaching, it’s recommended that students have a bass that they can practice with and have frequent lessons - either weekly or fortnightly.
During the first lesson, Tamir will explore the students’ musical interests and aspirations. If the student is a beginner, Tamir will delve into the important aspects of the bass’ role in the genre(s) the student is interested in and get the student playing as soon as possible. With more experienced players, Tamir will discuss with the student the direction they want to take with their playing and go straight from there. Lessons usually take place in Tamir’s home near Bounds Green tube station or online, but can take place in the student’s home for an additional fee. Students should bring their instrument and, if applicable, anything they are currently working on with them to their first lesson.
Tamir taught bass guitar at the Jewish Community Secondary School (JCoSS), where he taught students with autism, and continues to teach regularly in his private practice. Tamir has taught students aged 10-70+ and is happy to teach all age groups (enhanced DBS check available upon request). No prior knowledge or experience of music theory or the bass is required.
Tamir is continually sharpening his teaching skills and regularly attends talks, seminars, and workshops related to the field. Most recently Tamir has taken and passed the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) - a highly respected teaching course.
Tamir has achieved Distinction in his Jazz Double Bass Masters from the Royal Academy of Music, having previously graduated with a Music degree (II.i) from Cambridge. Tamir currently works as a full-time musician playing a variety of gigs, covering genres such as jazz, musical theatre, folk, and rock ’n’ roll. Tamir has experience as the Music Director of the Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra (CUJO) and is continually involved in the London jazz scene.
Tamir has achieved Grade 8 Distinction on double bass and regularly played in orchestras in Cambridge, performing all from Tchaikovsky to Janacek.
Alongside a host of other NYJO musicians, Tamir has delivered workshops to schools around the country introducing jazz and live music to young people. Whilst specialising in jazz and musical theatre, Tamir enjoys, regularly practices and listens to many different styles of music.

In the first lesson, Tamir seeks to understand the students’ musical interests and aspirations and the student’s level of ability on the bass. If the student is a beginner, this lesson will consist of an introduction to the double bass or bass guitar, and a bass line and some exercises to get you started on your playing. With more experienced players, Tamir will discuss with the student the direction they want to take with their bass playing and go straight from there. Lessons usually take place in Tamir’s home near Bounds Green or online, but can take place in the student’s home for an additional fee. Students should bring their instrument and, if possible, anything they are currently working on with them to their first lesson.
