About Ruth
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been teaching privately for nineteen years and worked in two local Primary schools for six years.
I also run an adult flute choir.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up to date DBS carried out in September 2014.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the British Flute Society
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I have a wide range of students starting with a six year old beginner piano student to an adult flautist playing Diploma level pieces. Some of my students love the challenge of exams whist others prefer developing through a wide variety of music. I am currently teaching music from Adele, Robbie Williams, Grade 1 flute, Grade VII flute, Faure, Mozart, Telemann ......!

I provide a musical environment with a mixture of expectations, patience and fun. I have been described as supportive, flexible and encouraging in my teaching style yet setting appropriate challenges for students too.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach flute, piano and music theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a music degree BA(Hons) in which I opted for performance and a PGCE specializing in Music.
- How much do you charge?
I currently charge £13 for half an hour and £25 for an hour.
- Where do you teach?
I teach from home.
- When are you available?
I teach Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday during the day and afternoon/ evenings. Most students break during half terms and holidays but I am happy to teach during the Summer if requested.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
For the flute I teach from beginner to advanced.
Piano from beginner up to and including Grade VI.
Music Theory up to Grade V.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
It is optional as to whether students take exams and I can prepare them for ABRSM or Trinity Board.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I have had the pleasure of teaching some of my students for eight or more years and I find it a great joy to see them develop and progress both as musicians and people.
