- Where do you teach?

I teach from home. This works much better in terms of 'quality' teaching as all resources (books, computers, TV and ipads) are 'at hand' and can be accessed readily and used within teaching sessions. Also feedback from parents has been their child works better elsewhere...rather than within their own home environment. Don't forget the 11+ won't be sat at home !!

- When are you available?

Saturdays during the day.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

All ages and all levels at Primary school level.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

SAT's KS 1 & 2

11+

Private school exams including KES, Priory, St. Georges, Edgbaston High and Wolverhampton Grammar to name a few....

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

This facility is not available at the present time.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I am friendly, not too strict but I do expect you to want to work and you need to complete any homework that I give you.

Also I always say to my students "Those that try hard and work hard are normally the ones who go on to succeed"

In terms of success, some of my successful students have passed for K.E. Camphill for boys, K.E Fiveways, K.E Aston, Bishop Vesey, Queen Mary's for Boys, Sutton Girls and King Edward VIth Handsworth Grammar School for Girls.

Which school would you like to be successful for ?

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

Over 22 years of teaching experience within Birmingham Primary Schools. I have experience of having taught in Bournville, Balsall Heath, Alum Rock, Ladywood to name a few areas so therefore I have a real breadth of children's styles of learning and individual needs.

Specialising in KS1, KS2 and SAT'S teaching.

11+ teaching fascinates me and the challenge it poses is what drives me :-)

I also have experience of The Appeals System (let's hope it doesn't get to that!)

Yes

Sam is an excellent tutor. My daughter had tuition with Sam for nearly one and a half year. As a result, her motivation and confidence became high. Sam is very patient, after each lesson she would provide detailed feedback about my daughter’s learning and what to do to progress further. Certainly I would recommend Sam for preparing your child to sit for the 11 plus exams.

We used Sam for my daughter’s 11 plus exam tuition and found Sam to be well organised and prepared for each lesson. Sam has in depth knowledge of all the areas for 11 plus i.e. English, Maths, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning.

Sam holds her tuition classes every Saturday morning in small groups and was always helpful in responding promptly to any queries during the week.

I would not hesitate in recommending Sam to others.

My daughter has attended Sam’s tuition classes for the last 18 months. She has enjoyed attending the tuition classes, we have seen a significant improvement in her 11+ prep as well as her overall educational development. Sam has always been reliable and is genuinely concerned as to the childrens’ progress and achievements. I have no hesitation in recommending Sam as a tutor.

Sam is an experienced teacher who was able to differentiate during her sessions. This resulted in my daughter having bespoke work set for her and Sam giving useful, in-depth feedback after each session.

Sam has the ability to motivate students through a mix of care for the individual child, while them focused.

Although parents are asked to purchase some of the materials, Sam also loaned or purchased different products to support my daughter’s learning.

My daughter has progressed from being a middle attainer, to being top of her class, which had other students who were working towards their 11+!

My daughter has grown in confidence and has developed skills that will help her to continue Lear. My other daughter will be going to Sam, once she is in Year 4.

Sam has taught my daughter for the last 2 years. We have seen not only a huge improvement in her preparation for the 11+ but also a huge improvement in her school performance. A kind and trustworthy teacher. We will be returning with our younger daughter in 2 years time when she’s ready for tuition!
