About Sarah
I am a professional mezzo soprano with 15 years of performing experience. I have performed on stages around the world from Mexico to Istanbul to English National Opera right here in the UK. Originally from Canada, I moved to London to complete my masters degree at the Royal College of Music. I have been teaching for ten years and am very passionate about my work with amateur singers; it brings me great joy to see the progress my students make as we work towards achieving their goals, whether that is to perform a solo in front of an audience, pass an ABRSM exam, feel more comfortable in choir, or just to sing a little better in the shower. I love the challenges different students bring as we work together to find their voice, and I believe very strongly that everyone can learn to sing!
I have university level theory, aural, and musicianship, and also provide tuition in these areas. I provide ABRSM theory exam preparation as well as tutoring for the aural section of ABRSM practical exams for all instruments.
I usually teach in my home in Chesham, a short walk from the Chesham Metropolitan Line station. I am within easy reach of Amersham, High Wycombe, Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and many other parts of Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. I do sometimes travel to students, although this can be more difficult to arrange and prices are adjusted accordingly.
I have been teaching privately for ten years and I teach all ages from children to adults. I have also taught peripatetic singing lessons at a girls' grammar school and at a large comprehensive. My students have ranged from complete beginner to professional with an age range of 6 to 75 years old. I have helped many students achieve their ABRSM grades as well as prepare for successful auditions.
I have a DBS certificate.

I teach singing to all ages and abilities. Although my specialty is classical music, I am happy to work on any style with my students; whether it is musical theatre, classical, or pop, the goal is to learn to sing in a healthy way, to use your voice to its full potential, and to have fun!
Lessons are tailored to the goals and abilities of each individual student. A typical lesson involves vocal exercises to improve technique and breathing, and some work on aural and sight reading skills, but the main focus is applying these new skills to songs we have chosen together. I feel it is important that students love the music they are singing and that there is always joy in the learning.
Singing is great fun! Many people think about singing lessons but are too shy or think they aren't good enough. To those people, I say: Come try it out! Everyone can learn to sing!

A family joke was I couldn't hold a tune in a bucket. So I decided on lessons and found Sarah via the web. As an absolute beginner, In my 60s, I was very nervous to start with but Sarah's relaxed , friendly style put me at ease. The lessons are challenging but fun and six months on I can sing several songs, mostly in tune. Even my biggest critic (My Wife) can hear a huge improvement.
Sarah is really friendly and has years of experience in the music industry as well as a really good knowledge of languages, musical style and performance technique. Having studied singing at University level I was very fussy about who I wanted to work with and I am very happy with Sarah.
Sarah is patient, expert and fun. As an adult learner, I have much appreciated her careful approach to ensuring that I make progress. Her lessons are enjoyable, too! (and she is an amazing singer)
Sarah is an experienced tutor, well used to working with students of all ages and all levels of ability. She is particularly good at designing lessons which tailor her teaching methods to your interests and skills.
Sarah has been an incredible teacher for my daughter. She is passionate with her work and engages really well with my daughter to get the best out of her, helping her get through her grades in confidence and with great results.
I have been having lessons from Sarah for the last year. She has helped me develop my breathing, sight reading , and voice control - all areas I wanted to improve. As a latecomer to singing, I was apprehensive about taking lessons; but I need not have been. Sarah is an excellent tutor and a sympathetic teacher. I really look forward to my lesson with her each week.
I've been going to Sarah for a couple of years now for singing lessons. She has helped me sing in my natural voice, which I wasn't doing before. She is willing to work on any song of my choice with me and will give helpful coaching on how to sing it and how to perform it. She will also help me note-bash difficult songs for my choir. She does sight-singing with me every lesson and has helped me improve that. Her vocal warm-ups at the beginning of the lesson are excellent. She is always friendly and encouraging.
Sarah is such a brilliant singing teacher! I was so nervous about singing she made me feel so comfortable and I really learnt a lot from her. I am so thankful for her help with audition material and techniques. I’m now singing every night on stage and without her help and support this wouldn’t have been possible.
I started having singing lessons with Sarah, as an absolute beginner. My wife arranged my first lesson, as a Christmas present. Before the first one I was absolutely terrified of making a fool of myself, but I needn't have worried - Sarah is brilliant, and knows how to put you at ease. I'm never going to be a fantastic singer, but I've improved tremendously since I started, and get a real feeling of elation when I do well. I thoroughly recommend Sarah as a teacher - she gets five stars!
