About Nathalie
I have been giving piano and violin lessons for five years, both in individual (private) settings and larger classroom and school environments. Since September 2015 I have taught roughly 50 students (eight individually and the remainder in classes), primarily in Oxfordshire and Hampshire but also more recently abroad. I mainly work with children, but have had a small number of adult pupils; I also have experience teaching children with learning disabilities such as autism.
I am currently in my second year studying Music at the University of Oxford, and have enjoyed participating in various educational outreach projects there as well as giving private lessons (both in person and via video call). I have over 15 years of practical experience, and have received piano tuition from professors at RAM, RCM, and RNCM. In terms of practical qualifications, I have an ABRSM diploma in piano (distinction) and grades 1 - 8 (all distinction), and received a first in my preliminary examinations at Oxford last year.

For practical music lessons (both violin and piano), the teaching methods with which I am most familiar are those of ABRSM and Trinity, but I also have experience teaching Suzuki as well. Most importantly, however, I like to ensure that the teaching method fits the learning style of the pupil and have included activities such as improvisation, singing, and popular and film music as well as the more classical styles taught by the main exam boards. Gaining a deeper understanding of how music works, both theoretically and contextually, is extremely important to building a skill-set as a musician and this features prominently within many of my lessons.
