About Daphne
I have spoken Spanish my entire life. Because my mother was a Spanish teacher who lived in Mexico for a few years, it was always a part of my life. Growing up in the city of Chicago, while being surrounded by a large Hispanic population also enhanced my learning experience tremendously. My junior year of university, I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, and it truly was one of the best experiences of my life. My time there not only strengthen my abilities to speak with confidence in Spanish, but it also introduced me to an entirely different world of people. As a polyglot who loves to learn languages, I have found great joy in learning about so many different cultures through communicating with local populations.

I believe in teaching through practice, not just completing worksheets. While I craft each lesson to cater to you, a usual lesson with me will start with a review on grammar that is related to your course. I will go through the mechanics of the grammar, and then we will apply it through various conversational exercises. We will then review various types of literature and other forms of media (podcasts, interviews) to observe how native speakers use the language and how it differs based on the country of origin. Depending on your goals, I will also help go over homework, papers, or material that you are learning in your regular class. I like to finish off with a quick cultural lesson to enhance your understanding of the language and its evolution. What truly sets me apart is my firsthand experience with various Latin/Hispanic cultures, which has developed my skills immensely and hopefully yours as well.
