About Tayla
I’m a fashion designer and stylist with a Certificate III in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles from TAFE NSW, with hands-on experience in sewing, garment construction and patternmaking.
I love taking an idea from sketch or inspiration through to something you can actually wear, and I’m passionate about helping other people develop the skills to do the same. I regularly work on my own garments and patterns, so my lessons are grounded in practical, hands-on garment making.
I know sewing can feel overwhelming when you’re starting out, so I keep things relaxed, patient and practical. Whether you want to understand your sewing machine, make your first garment, work with a pattern or build your existing skills, I’ll meet you at your current level and help you progress from there.

My lessons are relaxed, practical and tailored to your skill level and what you want to learn. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine before or already know the basics and want to start making your own clothes, I’ll work with you at your own pace.
Depending on your goals, lessons can cover setting up and confidently using your sewing machine, understanding fabrics and sewing terminology, practising different seams and finishes, reading and working with sewing patterns, taking basic measurements, and learning how to construct your own garments.
I believe the best way to learn sewing is by actually making something, so lessons can be centred around a project you’d love to complete. You’re also welcome to bring a pattern, garment or project you’re currently working on and we can work through it together.
Perfect for beginners, fashion lovers, or anyone who has always wanted to learn how to make, customise and understand their own clothes.
Equipment: Don’t have a sewing machine yet? No problem! I have a sewing machine available for students to use during in-person lessons, so complete beginners can learn the basics before investing in their own equipment. If you already own a machine, I recommend learning on yours so you become confident using it.
For project-based lessons, we’ll discuss any fabric, thread, patterns or additional materials you may need beforehand. Online students will need access to their own sewing machine for practical lessons.

Tayla is a really kind and patient sewing teacher, she explains things clearly and makes sewing easy to understand. She is very helpful and encouraging, and I would definitely recommend her to anyone wanting to learn sewing.
Tayla is genuinely one of the most creative and capable people I know when it comes to fashion and sewing. I’ve watched her make garments from scratch, work with patterns and figure out constructions problems when something hasn’t gone to plan. She’s also really patient and has a way of explaining things without making you feel silly for not knowing something. She takes a lot of pride in what she makes and pays attention to the little details. I think she’d be especially great for someone who is new to sewing and wants to learn in a relaxed, supportive environment. I’d definitely recommend her.

Details
Please message me before booking so we can discuss your experience, goals, project and equipment. Students are welcome to use their own sewing machine, or I can provide a machine for in-person lessons by prior arrangement. Fabric and project-specific materials are not included in the lesson price. Travel fees apply to lessons at the student’s location.
