About Monica
My teaching approach is hands-on and practical from the very first lesson — you'll be working with real fabric and a real sewing machine right away, not just watching demonstrations. I break every skill down into small, manageable steps and adjust my pace based on how quickly you're picking things up, since everyone learns differently.
A typical lesson might start with a quick review of what we covered last time, then move into the new technique — say, hemming a pair of pants — where I demonstrate first, then guide you through doing it yourself with feedback along the way. We'll usually wrap up with a small challenge or homework project so the skill sticks between sessions.
What sets me apart is my background: I hold a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, so I'm not just teaching you steps, I'm teaching you the "why" behind them — how fabric behaves, why certain techniques work better for certain garments, and how to troubleshoot when something isn't turning out right.
These lessons are for complete beginners who've never touched a sewing machine, as well as anyone who wants to finally learn practical skills like hemming, basic alterations, reading commercial patterns, or sewing a simple project like a tote bag. No experience necessary.
