About Alex
I have been a Maths mentor at school for a year and this involves helping students in years 7-9 in lessons with answering and explaining questions and this has allowed me to appreciate which styles of teaching work best.
I have also helped with creating projects at school which are designed to engage all students with further maths. An example would be encouraging students of all ages to enter the Ritangle maths competition in a school competition.

Hi! My name is Alex and I'm a keen mathematician who is hoping to study Chemical Engineering next year. I have always had a passion for problem solving and I love passing this on to my students. I am able to give lessons to students studying Maths from year 7-11 in the Warwickshire area.
I believe that the key to good teaching is identifying the mistake at its source and then building a student's understanding from the ground up in order to provide the basic mathematical ability. This may begin with a tutee working through a question and becoming unstuck or may involve a much more general approach of a tutee saying they don't understand a particular area. After this, we will go through more simple questions in order to build up that foundational knowledge which will be key in solving more challenging problems, with the end goal being to complete the original question independently. I believe this is the best way of teaching as it allows the tutee to utilise their previous mistakes.
I have always enjoyed learning and have found that the best teachers have been ones passionate about their subject; something which I can proudly say I adhere wholly to. I have always enjoyed competing in national Mathematics competitions such as the Olympiad and this has allowed me to expand my learning beyond the curriculum, something which I would hope to pass on to my tutees through applying problems to real world situations.
