About Melissa
I have just passed my GCSEs, my strongest being the English Language where I missed a Grade 8 by simply one mark, however, I decided to turn down the offer to have it remarked due to the high cost and high risk.
When I first started my GCSEs the exam grades had just changed, which threw a lot of my classmates as well as my teachers off, and therefore I know my way around the new grades and what they mean, as well as what examiners are looking for.
During my language exam, I believed that I had completely misinterpreted the text that was given to me, however, as my grade shows, you cannot misinterpret a text, your interpretation is neither right or wrong, and it is very important to remember that.
I have tutored a few students, one including my brother, as well as a few of his friends, they are working towards their exams which they will take in a few years time. With my help, they have improved their English skills in both writing and reading drastically, and where they once struggled to read above the age of 12 they now have a reading age equivalent to that of a 16 and 17-year-olds respectively.

I've just passed my English Language and Literature GCSE with Grades 7 and 6 respectively, the equivalent to a Grade A and B. I have experience with the new Grade system and therefore know what you should be focusing on to achieve those grades, as well as being able to explain to parents what these new grades mean.
My teaching methods include a lot of colour and more creative elements, so you are able to remember what you have learnt in a more effective manner. I will most often start with a warm-up task, for example describing an image in 20 words or less, connotations practice or grammar practice, before moving onto the lesson where we will study the texts necessary for the exam, as well as practising creative writing skills.
As a tutor I am very down to earth and relaxed, I know that exams can be a stressful time for students and that sometimes it seems as though in school lessons are simply making things worse. I aim to help you achieve what you deserve with the aid of someone who has been through exactly what you are going through now, and pass on my methods to those who I feel may benefit from them the most.
