About Gloria
I’m a mother of 4, grandmother & BA Social sciences graduate with a passion to see others identify & achieve their own goals. I’ve been supporting people both in voluntary roles & employment for 18 years. I’ve gained a wealth of life experience & academic knowledge that I would love to pass on to people for encouragement & motivation to focus & learn what they require to get to where they what they want to be in life.
I spent 2 years volunteering as a tutor for adults in basic numeracy & literacy skills with Adult Basic Education (ABE) now known as ‘The Big Plus’. It was very rewarding to watch confidence & aspirations grow in students as they began to make sense of & enjoy learning.
Since completing my degree 10 years ago, I have been supporting adults & young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to gain tenancy sustainment & life skills. Many of my clients have experienced great difficulties in life such as addiction & often present with challenging behaviours. It is a joy to see them grow & start to live new lives with self belief & the assurance of opportunities opening up to them.
In my current job, I welcomed the opportunity to be part of a group going into a local academy to talk to 4th & 5th year students about preparing for the future. I’ve also enjoyed mentoring 3 students that came to our team on placement from college & university studying Social Care & Social work.
I’ve lead in a Children’s church for several years, helped set up a youth drop in & a youth cafe. I’ve Volunteered with prison fellowship & travelled to New York & South Africa on mission working with adults & children.
I have an SVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care. I am SSSC registered, & hold current PVG certificates cleared for working with vulnerable adults & children

I believe it’s important to have long term vision that’s achievable by reaching short term realistic goals. Working towards these ‘stepping stones’ is where I believe tutoring is most valuable. People have unique learning styles so listening & identifying what works & doesn’t work is key to helping anyone learn. I am happy to offer support for adults & young people.
