About Genecah Espina

I work with all levels of language learners. I can help you to build your language fluency. I use books, pdf files, videos, and Google slides. I can also give you homework for additional practice. Acquiring a new language is challenging and may seem difficult at first, but it is not impossible. My advise is to not waste so much time and just dive into it because a year from now, you will be glad that you started this language learning journey today. Book a session with me, you won't regret it.

Soy profesora de Español como lengua extranjera y clases de lengua castellana (todos los niveles). I am a Filipina mestiza with hispanic ancestry. I can teach both Castilian (Spain) Spanish and a neutral form of Spanish which is taught in the US. Esta es tu escuela de español. I am a Filipino mestiza with Hispanic, American, Mesoamerican and Andean heritage with ancestry from Argentina, Colombia and Mexico. In fact, my middle name is “Espina,” which means “thorn” in Spanish. I am Spanish educated, and Spanish is also a part of my 2 Filipino languages, meaning that I am native to those 8,000 Spanish words that are integrated into my native languages. I was born and raised in the Philippines where Spanish was one of the three official languages. In fact, the Philippines used to be a part of Spain and my country was named "The Philippines" in honor of King Philip II of Spain. The Philippines was under Spanish Rule for 333 years, since 1571-1898. I grew up speaking English and 2 Filipino languages, Tagalog and Cebuano Visayan. There are approximately 4,000 Spanish words in Tagalog and around 6,000 Spanish words in Visayan language and about 8000 as you go down south of the country. There is even a Spanish Creole called Chavacano which is a Filipino language that is about 80% spoken Spanish. Most Cebuano’s almost always count in Spanish, we count prices in Spanish, and we also say days of the week and even months of the year in Spanish. I also studied 2 years of properSpanish when I was in high school in my home state, California. Spanish is already one of California’s two official languages. All California legislation must be published in both Spanish and English. This has been true ever since the first California constitution. Now I live in Illinois, and I have decided to pursue getting a degree in Spanish. Spanish is very useful in the USA and in the world. Spanish can open more doors of opportunity for me in terms of career. I want to introduce this beautiful language to others, and I hope that I can teach about Spanish and how Spanish is a huge part of my culture and Philippine history as well.
