About Amaia
Hi there! I'm Amaia and I'm Spanish, although I have lived in the UK for 5 years where I acquired a strange Spanish-Yorkshire accent which I'm actually quite proud of! As much as I loved living in the UK, I really missed Spain so I moved back home 2 years ago, although I brought a little bit of Yorkshire with me (my partner and some Yorkshire Tea)
I have been teaching for over 8 years now. I started working as a Spanish language assistant in a secondary school in the UK in 2011 and ever since then I knew that's what I wanted to do! I was meant to stay there only for a year, but ended pursuing my teaching career in the UK. When I finished my training, I went on to a full-time teaching job for 2 years. During this time, I taught private Spanish lessons to adults and children, too.
Back in Spain, I have worked as an English teacher for 2 years until 2018 when I decided to become self-employed and teach Spanish online. I teach adults and couples who want to learn Spanish for holidays or who are thinking of moving to Spain in the future.

During my lessons, I like to use a learner-centered approach where I can let students understand and infer the meaning of words and grammar through observing and using different examples.
My lessons are always based around conversation and I like to use speaking games and activities such as boardgames and role plays to practice grammar and vocabulary.
I always think that if I'm bored with a lesson, then the student will be too! So I try to make lessons as interactive and engaging as possible and I try to connect with students through humour. I think having a good relationship with your students it's the basis of good learning happening!
