About Ana
I'm a native Spanish speaker and I have a BA in Political Science with a minor in Spanish. I was in graduate school for two years, studying Hispanic Studies. I worked as a Spanish tutor and shadowed a professor's Spanish 1101 class during my first year. I taught a Spanish 1101 class by myself during the summer and fall semesters. Even though I didn’t finish my program, I still want to keep helping people learn Spanish.

The best way to learn a language is by using it. I began learning English when I was around 4 or 5 years old, and I struggled initially. However, I improved through hard work and by doing things I enjoyed in the language. As a teacher, my approach involves exercises, vocabulary practice, short writings, listening to audios or music, and engaging in conversations. I'll provide feedback and not just point out errors but also explain why and suggest alternatives. I'll give you explanations and exercises via email or printed materials. Grammar is important, but it's meant to become second nature so you don't need to overthink it. Simultaneously, you can do things you like, such as listening to Spanish songs or reading a beloved book in Spanish. I offer the first lesson for free to create a lesson plan, and I'll assign homework that goes beyond grammar.
