About Daryl
Hello! My name is Daryl, I am a physics specialist teacher with 4 years teaching experience at GCSE and 2 years at A level. I am extremely passionate about tutoring and working to get the best I possibly can out of students. Before completing my PGCE I completed a degree in Genetics at Cardiff University before enrolling at Southampton University on a Physics knowledge enhancement course.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
I work with many students ranging from 11-19 years old, all with a range of different learning abilities. As a Physics specialist in a secondary and sixth form school I am able to teach the curriculum to students who may struggle with concepts as well as high achievers aiming to go above and beyond their current level. Through different teaching strategies and modelling scientific ideas in different ways I am confident of getting the best I possibly can out of students.
TEACHING APPROACH:
I usually tend to approach lessons by going through the background of the topic in focus and a few worked examples before giving students questions to answer themselves and going through worked solutions. Independent practice is a key part of becoming stronger in a subject, and the more a student practices, the better they will get, and this is a truly rewarding feeling. Throughout lessons, I work with a highly friendly, approachable and patient approach to tutoring, as it is vital to ensure that my students feel comfortable to ask questions on whatever topic they may have difficulties with. In addition, students should never be afraid to ask for further explanation if they do not understand a concept the first time around, as many concepts can be difficult to grasp initially and this is why it is so important to encourage students to ask questions whenever they feel like it.
Furthermore, I aim to be as concise in my explanations as possible and I like to break down problems into manageable chunks. For example, I encourage students to underline keywords in questions and, particularly in maths and science, to draw diagrams to help them visualise problems. Exam technique is an essential part of exams, I teach students precisely how to answer certain styles of question to score full marks. This is not only a very important skill to have to get good grades, but it will help them develop more of an understanding of the problems they are solving.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Daryl worked as a secondary science teacher for me over the last 2 years. He is knowledgeable, organised, approachable and his lessons were always popular with students. I recommend him to anyone that needs a tutor for sciences KS3 or 4.
Daryl is an outstanding teaching practitioner that I've observed and recommended to my own tutees. Of course, his academic background and experience in teaching place him well as a tutor.
He has a genuine passion for his subject which is infectious. I've admired his aim of not just teaching the topics, but giving inspiring his students to become equally passionate about the sciences, encouraging them to pursue their own study beyond the lesson.
He understands the value in tutoring as being able to set a pupil up for a full week of well-structured education which they enjoy, rather than just delivering a good lesson.
I have always and continue to recommend Daryl wholeheartedly as a tutor. I would go out of my way to recommend him for any students who feel disheartened or lacking confidence in their subject.Daryl is an experienced and professional teacher of science. He is dedicated and reliable and works hard to ensure the best possible progress for his students.
