About Harriet
I have extensive experience of working with children at all levels, including SEN support and also preparation for scholarship exams. I have a positive up-beat teaching style and aim to ensure children enjoy their lessons and see the progress they have made. My teaching experience is very varied, I have worked with a diverse mix of children in a range of educational settings. My most recent experience has been 11 years as Head of Maths in a leading London prep school. In this role I was responsible for creating and administering entrance exams at both 7+ and 11+ levels. I have also worked as a private tutor, preparing children for entrance exams to leading schools at both 11+ and 13+ levels in Maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

My style of teaching varies according to the student and the specific objectives for the set of lessons. When working with children who are low in confidence and/or working below the expected level for their age, I am careful to ensure the child is comfortable and working at their own pace. I am a very positive and encouraging person and have always been popular with the children who I teach. I even convinced one year 6 class that I was a stand-up comedian before becoming a teacher! On the other hand, during preparation for exams, I can have a firmer approach when necessary, making expectations clear and ensuring children are fully involved in their learning journey and aware of what they need to do in order to achieve their goals.
