About Annette
I am English but when I was about 10, my family moved to Belgium where I was put in a French school. I experienced language learning first hand and became bilingual. I also learned some Dutch, German, and Spanish and had friends from many nationalities. Later my family moved to France and then later I returned to the UK for the next 20 years. After that I went back and forth to Spain where I improved both my Spanish and my German.
I did a TEFL correspondence course, did a weeks observation in a Spanish school of languages and then began to teach English privately to Spaniards. However, I soon realised that the ex-pat British community, mostly pensioners who had bought a house and retired there, could not speak any Spanish at all and needed help! I discovered that all the language courses provided by the Ayuntamiento (The Municipal Council) taught using grammar as the focus to learn the language but this was hopeless for pensioners who had forgotten any grammar they had ever learned and were floundering. They had to learn grammar before they could learn any Spanish. And so I began to teach basic Spanish to Brits living there and immerse them in language so they could learn it naturally like a child learns to speak. Through context and repetition and fun. One of my student’s told me that the Ayuntamiento's Spanish course she had attended had actually given her a headache and she just couldnt remember anything, but with me she learned how to communicate and use her passive knowledge. Despite specialising in seniors and adults, I have also helped people of all ages and nationalities. I can also help adults gain the specialist language they require for their profession, or just indulge in basic conversation.

I specialise in helping adults who are moving to another country, so that they can learn to speak and communicate and make their second language their own. I love learning languages myself and teach Spanish, English and French, usually on a one to one basis in the students own home, to individuals, couples or families. I modify my lessons for each student. I usually start with basic words that are essential for communication. Once a basic vocabulary is developed, we do some reading and more fun lessons using the imagination and letting the student start to express his or her personality.

My rate may vary if I have to travel further. However, I do give discount when two people/a couple are learning together, but this may not be possible if they are at very different levels. I may also give discount for many consecutive lessons.
