I work closely with you, the parent, and with your child's teachers to form a supportive group. After assessing your child's needs my teaching will be in accordance with best practice in his or her specific needs, mixed with plenty of fun!
I am a qualified teacher with a degree in developmental and cognitive psychology as well as a post-graduate certificate in specific learning difficulties. For 20 years I worked in schools as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator and for the last 10 years I have taught from home. Besides tuition I also offer diagnostic educational assessments.
My lesson rate is £25 per hour. There will be no written contract. Should a student not be able to attend and the lesson is cancelled, then there will be no charge.
After qualifying as a teacher in Holland, I worked for 9 years as a class teacher. Subsequently I completed a 12-month full-time course in specific learning difficulties at the University of Cape Town. For 13 years I worked in an independent school in Cape Town as the head of the SEN department, teaching and liaising with other professionals. In 1996 I obtained a degree in developmental and cognitive psychology in the UK and taught in schools. For 6 years I ran a support group for families with children with ADHD. Currently I work from home.
Mia tutors my Son who is 10. I would highly recommend Mia. She uses a variety of techniques during the lessons to engage her students. She is very patient and has a lovely way with the children. I stay for the lessons which is great as I can see what she does and reinforce the same message and teaching techniques at home. My Son has made great progress since he started his sessions with Mia and we are delighted with her teaching. She is also very knowledgeable about dyslexia and I trust her 100%.
