About Keenan
My name is Keenan Hammack and I am an ex-bluegrass guitarist turned physics and mathematics double major at ASU. Growing up, I always had a profound interest in sci-fi, technology, and space. Immediately following high school, I was in a nationally touring bluegrass string quintet but unfortunately we were no match for the COVID pandemic of 2020 and have since disbanded. It was in a community college general chemistry course where my love for the sciences was rekindled - I still remember the feeling of learning the section on electron orbitals and quantum numbers for the first time. "Gen Chem" one and two were by far the most challenging courses I took in community college - they were also the courses I found most interesting... by a long shot. I’ve always wanted to “get to the bottom of things” and after a bit of scientific exposure, I felt like quantum physics was the deepest bottom I could tangibly access. Since then, I've focused a great deal of my time on understanding mathematics, classical/quantum mechanics and quantum field theories at ASU (and on my own time), even securing a one-on-one research position under a tenured professor of mathematics for original undergraduate research in the topic of quantum optics for the Spring and Fall semesters 2025. Ultimately, my goal is to add my heat and light to the fire of human ingenuity, striving to gain mastery then stewardship of the universe around us, and inspire a new generation, passing the torch when it's no longer mine to hold.

My lessons integrate experiential learning strategies into the domain of online tutoring. Falling behind, or just not understanding/connecting with your coursework can feel like a big mountain to get over - though, with the right climbing partner it can feel safe and secure, allowing you to see new sights, breathe fresh air, and build new muscles. I am currently a senior studying mathematics and physics at ASU, a flame of passion sparked after years of traveling and performing as a touring musician. I have a deep love for the connection of patterns across multiple domains, the telling of complex stories, and the "Aha!" moment, the moment when something "just clicks". I have over 5 years of experience as a private music teacher and 2 years tutoring math and science at the college level. I focus a great deal on developing the "wiring" necessary to think about complex problems, the ability to see underlying patterns, and the mathematician's secret sauce - ABSTRACTION. This paired with a baked-in excitement and wonder for the natural world has built my student's confidence with material that previously appeared to them as a foreign language and fostered academic independence within them moving forward. It should be fun to learn!
