About Chris
I have been playing the five-string banjo for over 14 years. I have played a variety of genres including bluegrass, old-time, Irish traditional, European folk, rock, punk and others.
I hope to help guide you through learning this instrument, which can at times seem an arcane and impenetrable process for us in the UK. It certainly was for me when I started out so I can definitely empathise with learners’ struggles.
As well as teaching banjo, I also teach English as an additional language to adults. As a consequence, I have learnt structured teaching methodologies and clear communication which are transferred to my banjo teaching.

I teach three-finger (Scruggs-style) bluegrass banjo but I am also able to teach the basics of clawhammer.
I am currently teaching adult learners in and around South West Birmingham.
I mainly play bluegrass banjo and I have a lot of tips, tricks and knowledge I have picked up over the years that I would love to share with you.
Beyond that, my musical interests span far and wide. As such I am keen to help learners find their own style based on their own individual tastes. So whatever your goals, I can help.
