About Stuart
- What kind of experience do you have?
As a teacher, I have worked with children from 3 - 18 years old. I started teaching after completing my bachelors degree in 2013 where I worked for 'Chant Productions'. I prepared five schools to sing at a Rugby League World Cup match between England and Ireland, where I taught them the national anthems of both countries. The children got to sing on the pitch as the players prepared to kick off. I also worked with other schools to prepare them for other sporting events in the north west.
I have taught at the 'Carol May Dance Academy' in Preston, where I gave one to one and group tuition to children from ages 8 to 16. Repertoire was only Musical Theatre. I also prepared students for LCM exams at Grade 6 level.
I was a singing tutor for Mossley Hollins High School in Yorkshire, where I went to five schools in one day to give sessions to classes of children between 8 and 12 years old. I prepared them to sing as a whole group in the High School's Christmas concert. I covered many different types of repertoire, from folk songs to 'The Beatles'.
I also have been a teacher for '13 Performing Arts' in Manchester, run by Coronation Street's Jack Shepherd. I gave one to one and group tuition to students who took lessons at the school. The student's who I taught were always selected to play the main roles in the productions put on by the School every other term.
I am currently working for 'Artis', a company dedicated to providing holistic learning whilst studying their curricular subjects. I am working with children between the ages of four and seven.

- Where and with whom did you train?
Elgar School of Music (2005-2009) - I studied with tenor Wilhelm Theunissen. I undertook ABRSM grades 7 and 8 which were both passed with distinction.
Royal Northern College of Music; Bachelor of Music (2009 - 2013) - I studied for my Bachelor's degree under the tutelage of Jeffrey Lawton, who was the principal tenor for Welsh National Opera in the 1980's. I attended the conservatoire straight after finishing my A levels.
Royal Northern College of Music; Master of Music in Vocal Performance (2015 - 2017) - I studied for my Master's under the tutelage of Nicholas Powell, who has taught many of the top opera singers in the world. I was selected for roles which I performed in the main college operas, including Guglielmo (Cosi Fan Tuttue by Mozart) and Harry Easter (Street Scene by Kurt Weil).
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
International Society of Musicians member.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
Mature student - a Lawyer who is married and has two children. She came to me asking for lessons as she enjoyed singing with her choir at work. She was singing in the alto section as that is where she felt most comfortable. This was due to having no training in using her head voice to engage higher notes. After a single term of work, she is already singing as a soprano in her choir, and also really enjoying performing classical repertoire as well as popular/musical theatre repertoire.
Girl (11 years old) - This student is a proficient violinist, and has good aural skills. However, she was not trained in using the voice. She was auditioning for a music bursary at a secondary school and needed to have prepared an unaccompanied song. Due to her skills in learning french at school, I decided to give her a piece in french which she came to learn very quickly.
Boy (8 years old) - This student sings in a choir at school, but was lacking in confidence against other boys who he felt were louder than him. What was important with this boy is that he needed to realise that he doesn't need to be loud in order to be confident. After working on his head voice and his mouth to be more open, the sound resonated much more clearly and with greater presence. This was achieved without having to make him sing louder.

I am an opera singer living in London with six years of conservatoire training. I teach singing of varying musical styles to all ages and ability levels.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Singing (Classical) - As being a professional singer is my main occupation, it is my primary focus for teaching. My lessons will put you in the direction of healthy and confident singing for young and old.
Singing (Musical Theatre) - The world of Musical Theatre and Opera are alike in many ways, and classical training before pursuing a Musical Theatre career has helped many Professional Musical Theatre singers of today.
Music Theory - With my career as a singer, I have to have exceptional knowledge of Music Theory, and this is something I am very proud of and would be able to teach up to Grade 5 level.
