I prefer doing one-to-one or small group mentoring and focusing on each individual student to ensure they fully understand what is going on in the lesson. I would say as a tutor I am confident in talking to others and spending the time explaining any concept to allow students to progress
I am a student who has just finished studying A Levels. During my first year in Sixth Form, I was involved in a school based scheme, Introduction to Teaching, where I aided a year 8 Maths class for the year. I achieved grade A* maths GCSE and A^ (A* distinction) at Further Maths
A Secondary school student at the Priory Academy LSST. I have the skills to work effectively with others, in a team in order to reach targets, and achieve goals set. I also strive to help others and feel that on a shop floor this will be a useful skill to help customers, and to keep them happy. During year 12, I took part in an introduction to Teaching (ITT) Scheme that our school ran. For this I assisted in a year 8 mathematics class, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges it presented.
Crew Member - Part Time
McDonald's - Lincoln September 2017 to Present
I have worked at McDonald’s since September, and since working have gained many skills. My main role at McDonald’s is working on the front counter face to face with the customers delivering fast service that is expected of the company. I am now more able to balance multiple tasks at once and have managed to perfect my customer service skills. During my time, I truly realise how the customer comes first and strive to do my best at every shift.
Dance Teaching Assistant
Lincoln Dance Company -
February 2015 to Present
I worked as a dance assistant to the two youngest classes (aged 4-6) to keep them organised to aid the dance teacher. I also help by sorting out props and have accompanied the teacher to dance exams to assist with the music, and have helped for the past three years to organise the annual dance shows.
A Levels in Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics
Priory Academy LSST - Lincoln
September 2016 to July 2018
Anthony Nolan Charity
March 2017 to Present
The Anthony Nolan Trust is a charity that matches donors to people with blood cancers. If you are on the register (which I am) and someone matches then you donate stem cells via blood or bone marrow transplant. I am eager to get involved more out this organisation by volunteering at events at a later date
Alzheimer's Research UK
2015 to Present
I have signed up to be a volunteer for Alzheimer's Research UK but am currently too young to get properly involved. Alzheimer's is something I truly care about, after my grandad had it, and another grandparent is currently suffering with it so I like to be kept up to date on any developments.
Teamwork – I like being part of a team, particularly if that team works together to achieve an end goal, like completing a project. When being in a team, I like being both a leader, and just a member. If it is a school project on something I feel I excel at, I will suggest that I lead the group, as I know it will benefit everyone. Working at McDonald’s has broadened my ability to work with a large variety of people, and I enjoy now working with teams of people
Reading – I like to read as I feel one can learn a lot from reading, even if it is fiction. I feel that from reading a plethora of books I am able to recognise people’s characters more easily, and then I can react accordingly to build better bonds with friends (and hopefully colleagues in future years) Sport/Health – Recently, I have been more interested in pursuing a healthier lifestyle as I believe it helps to keep the stresses of school life down. I do this by going to the gym on a regular basis, and occasionally going swimming at the local pool. As well as the sport side of health, I am very particular with what skincare products I use and fully research what is best for me before I invest.
- Leadership –Throughout the 9 months I spent with a year 8 mathematics class, I managed toimprove my leadership skills. At several points I had to take control of either a small group of students or the whole class, and doing this has improved my confidence. I feel like because of this I am now a stronger leader, which is often a crucial skill in many jobs.
- Teamwork – once competed in a team Mock Trial local event, in which our school came second. Aspart of the ITT Scheme, I had to work closely with the class teacher to plan lessons and activities. I felt like this helped how I work in teams/with others because it helped me realise sometimes the ideas I came up with were too simple or too advanced for the class, and working with someone else meant we both achieved the best outcome for the class
- Communication – in school, we have to communicate a lot with teachers and peers to achievethe best (see above GCSE grades). In year 12 I completed an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) which involved a lot of researching to come up with a final essay, which was then presented. With both the essay and the presentation, I had to make sure my thoughts and ideas were clearly laid out so that the audience could understand what I was saying. From this process, I feel I am better at communicating my ideas, even if it just means explaining something in a slightly different way to how I would think.
During my first year in Sixth Form at Priory LSST, I got involved in the Introduction to Teaching Scheme helping out with a yr8 class. In June 2018 I spent 5 days at St George’s Academy Sleaford shadowing their maths department and spent roughly 20 hours watching maths lessons of varying abilities and ages. Both of these experiences I thoroughly enjoyed and the have massively improved my social skills and working with children.
