About Huw
I am a 19 year old student at the University of Birmingham studying International Relations with Economics. I've played piano my whole life, from being forced by my parents to practise all my scales at a young age to passing my Grade 8. As well as my ABRSM grades I also studied music academically at A level, achieving an A and full marks in my performance section. I've been in many bands throughout my life, (most weren't very successful), and have experience in playing at live venues, having played at a wedding in 2024 and other various concerts hosted by my school. I compose music for fun and I'm trying to create and release my first album by the end of the academic year. I'm also genuinely a hard working, patient, and confident person, and I also like to think that I am very easy to talk to and to get along with.

When I was learning piano I only saw genuine improvement in my abilities after I began to really love and enjoy the instrument. This enjoyment came from being able to play my own favourite songs in parallel with my ABRSM grade which allowed me to apply the different skills learnt from both to my general playing. Therefore the teaching methodology that I adopt is focused around doing what I can to encourage my students to love piano and want to practise and improve at it. I have experience in teaching children up to grade three but I am more than happy and capable of teaching up to grade five. My lessons are open to all ages and are either 30 or 60 minutes long. Whilst I try to make them as fun and engaging as possible, I will always ultimately focus on what needs to be done in order for my students to achieve their goals, whether that would be a distinction in a music exam or being able to play their favourite song.
