About Uma
I'm a senior undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. I've taken French immersion my whole life (from preschool!) and was awarded the French award throughout high school. I graduated with a 7 in IB French, the highest level possible. I have a passion for learning languages, and I want my students to feel like French isn't a chore, but something they look forward to improving.

I mainly use the IB French curriculum as the foundation for my high school-level lessons. I use the Ontario provincial curriculum as a baseline for lower grade levels.
However, I like to get a sense of where my students are individually through small diagnostic worksheets that assess oral, written, reading comprehension and listening comprehension.
Learning a language is tough! I like to use immersion in my lessons and try to introduce my students to various forms of French media (movies, books, music) in order to pique interest and give a little perspective how learning a new language can open so many doors.
Typically in a lesson, I prioritize my students' schoolwork (projects, homework), and then I'll move on to improving problem spots through worksheets or different activities.
