About Catherine
I started sewing when I was 10 years old and I had a natural ability to sew. I created a covered chair and a christening gown for my CSE exam! I then went on to a Fashion & Design Course at the Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design. I have a BTec Diploma in Fashion & Design. I started teaching sewing to groups in my mum's Fabric and dressmaking shop in Dorset. I am now based in Brentwood Essex and I am easily accessible from junction 28 on the M25

Sewing lessons for beginners to advanced. One to one private lessons in my dedicated sewing room. You can book a 2-hour lesson or however many hours you want. Learn to use your sewing machine to make clothes or soft furnishings. Beginners will learn how to use your sewing machine, or you are welcome to use mine to learn on if you don't have a machine. You will learn the basics including a simple seam, French seam, Flat fell seam, gathering, easing, darts, zips and buttonholes. We will make a simple bag together as your first project. We can then continue onto the more advanced lessons. I have been teaching 12 year olds upwards. I'm happy to have mum sit in on the lesson if wanted. Advanced lessons will cover measuring the body, understanding a commercial pattern, measuring a commercial pattern to fit your own measurements, cutting out fabric and making up your chosen garment. You will be able to learn to use an overlocker. If it’s alterations you are more interested in then we can cover this also. Bring your garments along and we can alter them together. If you are more advanced we can focus on what you want to learn, please contact me and we can discuss this so we can create a personalised lesson that meets your needs.
