I am studying History at the University of York. At GCSE I acquired a grade 9 and at A Level an A*. I have a passion for tutoring my favourite subject and encouraging the growth of young historians.

About Holly
History has always been my favourite subject, and it is a subject I am genuinely passionate about. My particular niche is royal and feminist history, with Anne Boleyn being my favourite historical figure. I am especially interested in exploring the experiences, influence and representation of women throughout history. For my EPQ, I researched the question “What was the main factor in women in the UK obtaining the vote?”, exploring the roles of the Suffragettes and Suffragists, the impact of the First World War, and international influences. Looking ahead, I am particularly excited to learn more about the Romanovs and Russian history. In September, I will be starting a History degree at the University of York, with the long-term ambition of becoming a university professor and pursuing a PhD, allowing me to continue researching, writing and sharing my passion for history.

I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE History and an A* in A Level History, providing me with first-hand experience of what is required to achieve the highest grades.
My approach to tutoring this subject is based on the belief that it is not simply what you know but how effectively you apply it. Together, we will build a strong understanding of the key historical concepts and content, while placing a particular emphasis on exam technique and essay writing. These are the skills that can make the difference between a mid-level grade and the top marks.
I can help students develop clear arguments, analyse evidence, evaluate interpretations and structure essays in a way that directly addresses the mark scheme.
My lessons are tailored to each student's individual strengths, weaknesses and goals, with a focus on building both ability and confidence.
I primarily teach AQA GCSE and A Level History, but I am also happy to support students studying other exam boards. Sessions are typically one hour, with shorter or longer sessions available, as well as essay and exam marking with detailed feedback.
