About Katie
Hello! My name is Katie, and I am a first-class Chemistry graduate from the University of Warwick.
I have been a tutor for 3 years, tutoring students in both A-Level Chemistry and GCSE Chemistry and Mathematics. I have also taught students in a secondary school from Year 7 to Year 10 in Chemistry and Year 9 Mathematics.
I have been fascinated by science since I can remember, especially Chemistry. After many hours in the laboratory, I have seen the amazing things that science can create and how exciting it is to see theory apply to real life. Whilst I found parts of science at school difficult to grasp at first, the sense of achievement I felt when I got my head around a question or topic was like no other! My goal is to pass on this enthusiasm and to give you the knowledge and confidence to attempt questions yourselves.

To help you improve, I will provide in-depth, detailed explanations in easy-to-follow steps. I also like to use interactive activities such as quizzes and discussions to create a deeper understanding.
I start by making sure my students have a good understanding of the basic concepts, then move on to gaps in my students’ knowledge with targeted revision resources. In previous experience, I have found that developing a good understanding of the basics makes it much easier to grasp complicated questions and gives students the confidence to answer them.
I start my sessions by finding out where my students have strengths and where the areas are that we can develop. I discover this through using past papers and agreeing on which topics we would like to start on, or beginning with a topic the student personally has in mind.
In the following lessons, we will start by answering questions on the topic from the previous week, to help concepts stick in the memory and aid fast recall. Then, as we move onto another topic, we will discuss what the student already knows about the topic, and then I will provide some worked examples.
From this point, I help my students answer examples by themselves, through scaffolding answers and using models.
