About Susanna
- What kind of experience do you have?
I recently tutored singing, music theory and general musicianship out in Mumbai, India for 4 weeks. I have taught pupils of all ages on and off since I began my singing career, and I also taught flute, piano and singing at a school in London, also beginning a choir and taking the role of musical director for their school musicals.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
- Where and with whom did you train?
Vocally, I trained with Dennis O'Neill and Nuccia Focile at the Wales International Academy of Voice, and with Alison Wells at Trinity College of Music. I am currently mentored by Raymond Connell. Before that, I studied flute with Lynda Coffin whilst at Oxford, and with Simon Salisbury and Malcolm Pollock whilst a scholar at High Wycombe Music Centre.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of Equity.

As a professional opera singer and soloist performing internationally at the highest level, I am also passionate about sharing my wide knowledge and experience with others.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
My main area of specialisation is music: I enjoy teaching both academic and practical musicianship in many different guises due to my top level education and professional experience. I particularly relish the theoretical side of music, but I also teach flute, singing and piano. I also provide essay and dissertation coaching, interview prep, and Personal Statement/UCAS tutoring.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I hold a Bachelors degree in Music from Magdalen College, Oxford, where I was also an Instrumental Scholar. Thereafter I attended Trinity College of Music and the Wales International Academy of Voice, gaining a Masters in Vocal Performance with Distinction. I have won numerous awards and prizes; at Trinity I was a recipient of the Paul Simm Opera Prize, the Wilfred Greenhouse Allt Prize, a bursary from the Linda Pilgrim Charitable Trust and winner of the English Song Competition. Thereafter, I was a Park Lane Group Young Artist, and winner of the Thelma D. and Leon Fischbach Memorial Prize at the London Handel Singing Competition and the Dvořák Prize at the Emmy Destinn Young Singers Awards. I also have flute and piano Grade 8, both with Distinction. At school I obtained three As at A Level (Music/History/Art), and a B in AS Level Biology.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £60/hr in my specialist area of singing, but for every other service I charge £50/hr. I can offer a 50% discount for consultation lessons, and group lessons represent a reduced cost depending on numbers involved (prices upon request).
- Where do you teach?
I can teach at home or travel to the home of the student. I am also happy to teach online via Facetime, though for practical lessons it is of course much better to be there in person! I am based in Marlow but willing to travel to Henley, Maidenhead, Beaconsfield, Slough, Windsor, High Wycombe, Farnham Common and possibly even further afield.
- When are you available?
I am available Monday to Friday and weekends, during both term time and holidays, depending on my performance diary.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach children and adults of all ages and abilities.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I can prepare students for graded music theory exams, and practical exams in flute, piano and singing.
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I am happy to tutor online via Facetime or Skype.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I'm pretty excited about what I've learnt so far in this weird and wonderful world, and I've had some amazing experiences along the way. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you as we embark upon a journey of discovery together!
