About Suzanne
- What kind of experience do you have?
I began teaching piano at 14 and therefore have 35+ years of experience working with people to achieve their musical goals, whether that is in examinations or in learning for pleasure. I am happy working with students across a wide age range, from 5 years to those in their eighties and beyond! I have taught piano and theory in both state and public schools alongside private practice. In addition to working with those who wish to learn solely for the enjoyment and those who are very bright and musically gifted, I also have experience teaching students with additional needs such as autism, blindness, learning difficulty, and hearing impairment. I welcome students across the ability spectrum and am equally enthused by working with people who pick things up very quickly as those who require a more measured and versatile approach.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Enhanced DBS clearance 2022 on the update service
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied the piano with Wendy Bailey, Professor Arthur Hailey (Retired Professor of Piano), Anthony Sycamore (Durham University), and Diana Kalantarova (London).
I studied the organ with Jack Burns (Walsingham), Gary Sieling(Peterborough Cathedral), David Goode(King's College, Cambridge), Keith Wright(Durham Cathedral), and James Lancelot (Durham Cathedral).

I have experience teaching all ages. I welcome absolute beginners, those wishing to sit music exams, and people wishing to learn for their own pleasure.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
The exam board that I use most is the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). I'm also happy to prepare students for Trinity Guildhall exams and other boards on request. In addition, I also use MTB digital exams.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe that the single most important thing I can do each time we have a session is to meet you where you are, musically, at the start of that lesson. I want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible so you feel able to ask questions, try things out, make mistakes, and then play to the best of your ability. All lessons are tailored to your current needs, to ensure you make solid progress and enjoy yourself too!
