About Ting-Ying
Hi! I’m Ting-Ying, a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan, currently based in Brisbane.
I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and a master’s degree in Life Education. I have several years of language teaching experience, including classroom English teaching, private tutoring and volunteer Mandarin teaching in Thailand.
Through teaching, travelling and meeting people from different cultural backgrounds, I’ve developed a strong interest in how language connects us to different ways of thinking and living.
What I enjoy most about teaching Mandarin is the opportunity to exchange ideas with my students. I particularly love discussions about culture, society, everyday experiences, relationships and different perspectives on life.
As a language learner myself, I understand how frustrating it can feel when you know the vocabulary but struggle to express what you really mean. That’s why I aim to create a comfortable learning environment where you can experiment with language, ask questions, make mistakes and gradually become more confident.
I teach Taiwanese Mandarin and Traditional Chinese, and I can also introduce Pinyin, Zhuyin and authentic Taiwanese expressions according to your learning goals.
My teaching style is friendly, thoughtful and personalised. I want my students to enjoy our conversations while making genuine progress in their Mandarin.
Whether you’re interested in Taiwanese culture, preparing to live or travel in Taiwan, or simply hoping to speak Mandarin more naturally, I’d be happy to help you develop your skills further.

My lessons are designed to help you go beyond textbooks and express yourself naturally and confidently in Mandarin.
I particularly enjoy working with intermediate and advanced learners who already have some Mandarin knowledge and want to take their speaking skills further.
What can we talk about?
Our lessons can explore Taiwanese culture, social issues, travel, relationships, workplace experiences, everyday life and cultural differences between countries. I love exchanging ideas and learning about my students’ experiences and perspectives too.
How will your Mandarin improve?
Our conversations are more than casual chats. Depending on your needs, I’ll help you:
* Expand your vocabulary and use more natural expressions
* Improve pronunciation, fluency and sentence structure
* Express opinions, explain experiences and discuss complex topics
* Feel more comfortable speaking Mandarin in real-life situations
* Understand Taiwanese Mandarin, Traditional Chinese and cultural nuances
Lessons are personalised around your level, interests and learning goals. We can have relaxed conversations, focus on specific language challenges or use selected topics and learning materials to guide our discussions.
I believe language learning should be both meaningful and enjoyable. My goal is to help you communicate your own ideas in Mandarin, not simply memorise vocabulary.
Beginners are also welcome, with lessons adapted to their individual needs. However, my particular interest is helping learners who already know some Mandarin develop greater fluency and confidence.

Perfect! Ting-Ying is a great Mandarin teacher and a genuinely cool conversationalist. Perfect! Ting-Ying is very kind and friendly, I don't feel worried or judged at all. Her communication and explanations are very good, she will really make sure I understand things. She incorporates a lot of the different learning methods I enjoy and helps me learn about new things to learn from, like new songs. She is very encouraging and I always want to learn more from her.
