About Helen
Sparking a love of language, fostering curiosity about different cultures and helping pupils to overcome challenges so they can succeed is very important to me. At times in larger classes at school, pupils can fall through the net or may not get the individual attention they need to push into the next phase of their language learning. I have always enjoyed working with children and young people, and each of my roles as a nanny, teacher and translator have given me unique skills in communicating with young people in a way they can relate to, allowing them to access content they find challenging. I encourage them to find what works for them, and love to see their confidence and resilience grow

I believe in an approach that is tailored to the needs of the pupil as every individual is different.
For younger learners, I use a range of games to build interest as well as vocabulary and language skills. For pupils heading into formal exams, I can offer sessions that cover exam technique, give them extra practise on their speaking skills, which is often hard to get in larger classes at school, or find ways to explain grammar in a way that makes sense to them as a learner.
I can offer lessons of 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the age and needs of the pupil.
I have 7 years experience as a teacher, have worked as a translator for large companies and have previously marked papers for both Edexcel and AQA GCSE, giving me unique insight into how best to pick up those valuable extra marks!
