I approach each topic from a linguistic and sociological perspective. I like to focus on catering to students' interests and thus holding the grammar or topic around them. For younger students I include songs, games and rhymes and for older students I provide extra revision material and discussion focused tasks.

Monkey Tree English Learning Centre
Hong Kong China. June 2016- June 2018
I was employed at Monkey Tree as an English teacher for students aged 3 to 12.
October 15,2016 I was promoted to Head Teacher.
My role was to teach a variety of courses, these covered phonics, reading and speaking and both grammar and writing, the prominent teaching tool was the internationally recognised Cambridge and Trinity TESOL modules.
We catered for students of all ages and abilities, we covered all areas of reading writing, comprehension, grammar, speaking, from beginner to advanced levels.
My team was 7 people strong, and included teachers, administration staff. My responsibility was to check the class/teacher schedule, we held weekly meetings to communicate with and update all team members on any curriculum changes
I was responsible for appraising the teacher and the class results, and dealing with any performance issues. To more efficiently communicate between myself and my team, I formed a messaging group with all important information and contact details.
I was in daily direct contact with head office to update them on our progress, and involved in bi monthly meetings. I was responsible for preparing all class material, including budgets and schedules, rotas, memos and newsletters. I was responsible in leading and organising Summer courses.
Hong Kong children are expected to continue their learning throughout the summer holiday, I had to asses the new students level and advise parents on the most appropriate and beneficial courses.
During the summer we held weekly Community Day events as a means to advertise and promote the courses and certificates available. As a Head Teacher it was my responsibility to plan, prepare and lead these classes where both parents and students were involved in a craft activity and vocabulary comprehension lesson. Parents and teachers were actively encouraged to interact and discuss any concerns that they may have concerning the students education.
Monkey Tree held an annual Summer fair which was organised by Head Teachers and staff members, I allocated tasks for gift preparation, stall set up, food preparation and media (photographs for parents to take home). During the day, I acted as a custodian for activities and competitions while supporting my teams in their tasks.
One of my proudest moments at Monkey Tree has been planning and discussing students progress and class modules with parents, it is very important when providing private education to inform parents about the progress and support that students may need. While entertaining and interacting with students there were also possibilities to display new courses to parents and carers. Being able to be a part of a student’s success in their passion for learning has been the highlight of my time teaching.

Being able to travel and study in a different continent for a year was a great opportunity for me to meet new people and understand new cultures and environments. While I was in America I was introduced to a more independent education system which involved regular interaction and discussions with faculty members and students. This helped me to gain confidence and experience in public speaking.
