About Sofia

My name is Sofia and I am currently studying Physics with theoretical astrophysics at the University of Nottingham, where I am currently also learning how to play my favourite sport ever, volleyball. Some of my other hobbies are cooking, sewing (I promise I am not a grandma yet), and watching movies and TV shows.

One of my biggest dreams is to be able to travel the world and get to know as many cultures and people as possible (I am Portuguese myself). In fact, after I take my masters I am planning on doing teacher training and volunteer to teach in 3rd world countries over the summer holidays.

As for experience, in the summer of 2022 I did a 5 week long teaching internship at a school, where I prepared classes, reviewed material, corrected exercises students had solved, taught some classes (GCSE and KS3, but would've loved to have taught some A-level classes too), and assisted the main teacher by answering the students' questions when they surfaced.
I have also been a Math and Physics tutor since October 2023, from KS3 to A-levels.

Within the university I am a peer mentor, which consists of helping my peers with whatever they need (as long as it is not giving them answers to coursework).

I like to consider my teaching style to be quite flexible, and I will always strive to change my pace depending on the student's needs. Tutoring would be a great opportunity for me to develop my tutoring skills before I do any sort of teacher training.

The subjects I am proposing myself to teach are Maths, Further Maths, and Physics, as those are the ones I excel at. I am also available for IELTS related tutoring, as I have taken the test to enter university.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Other Qualifications :
I did not do any GCSEs or A-levels as I was not living in the country at the time, but I did a foundation year to compensate. One of the pictures uploaded reflects the modules and grades gotten during said year.

I have also done a 5 week long teaching physics internship, where I got to observe, assist with 1-1 questions, do group activities/experiments and teach a few classes.

My teaching method depends on the level the student is currently at. I believe in understanding the basics before moving on to more complicated topics, so if the student seems to find a topic difficult I will prioritise said topic, even if it has been learnt the year before.
Moreover, since I want to teach subjects like Maths and Physics, I will bring a lot of exercises for the students to try, and for me to guide them through, but will always be open for them to bring their own exercises if they want to.
I have done a summer internship teaching physics at a local school, and am currently tutoring at a local tuition centre. The typical length of a lesson I would set would be of 1 hour, but depending on the tutees needs another length could be set.
I want to teach mainly KS3, GCSE and A-level students.
