About Matthew
I thoroughly enjoy Maths and want to share my passion for the subject. The last few years have been difficult for students at all levels of learning and have, understandably, produced gaps in learning or scant understanding in some areas. Every student has a goal that they would like to reach and I would like to be able to play a part in helping you to reach your goal. Patience, understanding, a different way of looking at teaching, a gentle approach and willingness to try different methods of explanation is what I can offer to my students. My degree in Theoretical Physics contained a lot of maths but, by having a good grounding and, more importantly, a good understanding of 'why and how', I found myself able to apply my knowledge to more complex calculations. I have a clear Enhanced DBS which is on the update service.

I like to teach my students the how and why approach to Maths (Basic First Principles). If you know how and why then you can apply this knowledge across a variety of problems. This knowledge will stand you in good stead for your next level of learning and application. Instead of doing hours of homework to cement the rote learning, you will be able to understand the principles behind the Maths. I have a Masters Degree in Theoretical Physics (First) from Lancaster University. This degree contained a substantial amount of maths. I have tutored my peers at university, school and also GCSE students wishing to ensure that they passed their exam. Each student has their own motivation and goals. I am happy to tutor for GCSE and A Level Maths and use my knowledge gained during my degree to be able to answer any deeper questions that you may have.
