About Kiya
I am a junior at James Madison University majoring in Political Science with minors in History, Social Justice Studies, and Russian Studies. My coursework has allowed me to study politics from several perspectives, including government, international relations, political behavior, research methods, history, and social issues. Outside my coursework, I work as a substitute teacher, which has given me experience supporting students with different learning styles and academic needs. I understand that political science can involve complicated theories, terminology, readings, and writing assignments, so I aim to be patient and approachable while helping students become more confident working with the material independently.

My political science tutoring focuses on helping students understand how political systems, institutions, theories, and processes actually work rather than relying solely on memorization. I can help break down difficult concepts, work through assigned readings, review class notes, prepare for exams, and strengthen political science writing and research skills. Lessons will be tailored to the student’s course and individual needs. Depending on the subject, we might work through concepts together, compare political theories, examine political institutions, create study materials, or use practice questions to check understanding. I can tutor students in areas including American government, international relations, political theory, political behavior, and introductory political science and research concepts.
