I like to begin with identifying the areas the child feels most comfortable with and then what they find the hardest as it allows me to create a teaching plan which tackles the issues without dwelling on the things the child already knows well. I then create work sheets based on these areas and little quizzes to check information is being retained. When teaching I like to help the child arrive at the answer with prompts instead of just saying they're wrong and telling them the correct answer as I feel this helps them to learn much more effectively.
