About Rory
Professional touring bassist/multi instrumentalist. I have 5 years experience of playing live in 5+ bands as well as other projects, across many different genres, and currently tour with one band (Kiosk) adding up to over 200 gigs since 2022, so I can provide excellent advice and knowledge on playing live, playing in bands professionally and everything surrounding that. Upcoming tour/live dates include Green Man festival, and tour support at 1000+ capacity venues. I've supported Machine Girl in Leeds and rising UK bands such as English Teacher, and played many of the UK's most prestigious venues across the whole country.
I've been teaching since January and have 5 active students, having taught a further 6 non-current students. I completed my degree at Leeds Conservatoire in 2024 including 4 years of advanced bass tuition. I'm a versatile player with live and studio experience in many genres including indie, pop, metal, soul, jazz, improvisation, electronic, folk, rock, noise. My personal specialisms include effects and tone (e.g. helping you achieve the exact sound you're chasing from a song), advanced/extended technique, writing/improvising/arranging and working with other musicians, but am confident teaching any aspect of bass and live/studio work.

I provide a tailored approach to all students - identifying goals and individual methods of achieving them. Depending on goals, we can focus more or less on any aspects of playing, such as music theory, technique, improvisation, writing, effects usage/tone, playing live and playing with other musicians. I currently have students ranging from total beginners to intermediate live players, and can confidently teach advanced level students too.
All of my teaching is done in context - using examples from songs, my experience and your experience to directly implement the lessons and make learning enjoyable and immediately rewarding. You will see progress by the end of the first lesson, whether that's 30 minutes or an hour.
