About Arabella
I built years of touring and session experience as a violinist working across genres, long before I considered teaching seriously, and that road-tested background still shapes every lesson I run today. Fifteen years into teaching now, I've worked with roughly four hundred eighty students, most drawn specifically to me because they want real, versatile playing skills rather than purely classical, exam-focused training. I skipped the traditional conservatory path myself, and I'm upfront about that, because my real strength is genuine stage and studio experience rather than academic polish alone. I work particularly well with students chasing folk, contemporary, or crossover playing, since that's the world I actually spent years living and performing in myself. My teaching style is direct, a little unpolished compared to traditional violin instruction, shaped by real gigs rather than a relaxed academic pace. I've watched plenty of technically excellent violinists struggle the moment they're asked to play something unfamiliar on the spot, so real-world readiness gets serious, deliberate focus in my studio. Students who've trained with me are genuinely out there performing, recording, and holding their own on stage, which matters far more to me than exam results alone ever could.

I spent years on tour as a violinist crossing genres way beyond classical, so my teaching leans hard into practical, stage-ready playing rather than polite conservatory tradition alone. Bow control and posture still get proper attention early, because sloppy fundamentals fall apart fast under real performance pressure, but I move students toward playable music quickly rather than holding them back for months. Reading various notation styles gets real focus, chord charts included, since that's genuinely what lands in front of you at a real session with zero warning. I push improvisation early, once basic technique is solid, because I've watched too many technically strong violinists freeze the second nobody hands them exact notes to play. Playing alongside other instruments is a constant focus, using backing tracks and recordings from early lessons, because solo practice alone never once prepared me for an actual stage. Style versatility matters here — folk, pop, crossover, whatever a student's actually chasing — rather than a single narrow classical pathway. I'm honest and direct in feedback, shaped by years of real deadlines and real gigs rather than an unhurried academic pace. This is violin built for real playing situations, not just a recital hall.
