About Karen
I am a trained journalist and mum to a young man with Asperger's and mental health issues. I have done this informally with neighbourhood children - particularly over lockdown - helping them to not only keep up with their peers, but to enjoy it too. I think having brought up a child with ASD has allowed me to understand the importance of finding the right subjects to work with, eg trains, cartoon characters, humour, etc.

I like to allow the children to lead - choosing materials that reflect their interests. I also incorporate multiple approaches - ensuring your young person's learning type is reflected. By sharing details of their learning at school, I can reinforce the learning they've had at school through exercises, such as creative writing or spelling bees.
