About Elfa

With over 4 years of private tutoring in Hong Kong and Toronto, I can always observe students' needs and offer fun and fruitful lessons. I am especially patient in correcting students' mistakes. As a translation major graduate from one of the top universities in Hong Kong, CUHK, I can communicate in fluent English to help students understand the meaning behind Chinese words. I am currently working a full-time permanent job in Toronto. Feel free to share more with me about yourself!

About the lesson

Hi, I'm Elfa Mou. It's my pleasure teaching you Chinese. 大家好，我是思行老師！ As a local Hong Konger, my lessons featured the usage of traditional Chinese which helps to consolidate students' understanding of Chinese. I can also introduce simplified Chinese using University-graded materials (for Beginners to Intermediate learners). My teaching experience involves oral expressions, writing practices, grammar studies, and accent reduction in Mandarin and Cantonese. I am flexible in making teaching plans in order to match your needs! I have over 4 years of experience with having lessons with children and adults. Currently, I am also working with children from Mandarin immersive schools. For the first class, we can have a small chat and tell me your interest. I will evaluate students' proficiency in Chinese and tailor-made teaching plans. I deliver classes in reading, writing, and oral sections. Students are free to choose any sections to start with. I am fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese (the language used in Hong Kong). Depending on your need, I can start with pinyin and pronunciation. Then get to words, phrases, and sentence structures. For students who have advanced knowledge of Chinese, I will start with Chinese literature. In all, I will guarantee every student an interesting and rewarding learning experience. Perfect! I cannot say enough positive things about Elfa. She has been an effective tutor to my two daughters in Cantonese and Mandarin. She takes the time to review their lesson plans and help them in writing, reading and speaking those languages. While I cannot converse in these languages, just seeing the smiles on the kids faces and the relief (from stress) after their lesson makes a world of difference. She is also very patient and caring for their success.
As I have told my kids, there is a difference between knowing the subject and being able to teach it to to others effectively.
